thoughts on self promotion and a swapportunity…fittingly.

blogging can be kinda, sorta, silly sometimes. in some ways, it's entirely narcissistic.

we sit in our homes, offices, parks, coffee shops, libraries and write about our days, our hopes, our fears, our faves, our ideas…

and then, we cross our fingers that someone else reads our words…

and connects.

ah, well this is where narcissism turns into something else entirely. because yes, we're putting our lives on display (each and every day, every day, every day...confession: i love rhonj. love.) and though it's cathartic and fun for us, it's really about something else. it's about finding like people in the world and connecting.

it's the connections we make that are most exciting and motivating.

because it's true, I love it when people read and comment and follow along. but I love it JUST as much, if not more, when I find a fellow blogger that I connect with. It's incredibly amazing to relate to those you've never even met, those who live an entire world away or sometimes, if you're lucky, just a town over.

and the thing is, you'll never have that chance to connect to those around you if you don’t put yourself out there. it's scary, yes. it's intimidating, yes. it's uncomfortable, undoubtedly.

but it's worth it.

and so, in this spirit, I'm putting it out there and announcing my very first swapportunity!

if anyone is interested in swapping buttons with me, myself and I, please let me know and we'll get this thang going!

to connecting.

xo

p.s. yes, maybe i got this word from watching too much tv with this commercial playing...creativity runs rampant in my house. so does plagiarism.

  1. True all of that. I feel so full of myself most days when I'm sitting in front of my blog. But then I also feel my heart is full most days when I'm connecting with people all over the country who I never would have met unless if it were for my blog and Twitter. It's pretty nuts. And on EVERYDAY, rather than most days, I am thankful for that. For the unexpected friendships, and also, all the give aways. Free stuff heyyy!

  3. I would swap buttons with you in a heartbeat! If I had one.... sigh. I'm not tech/blogger savvy so I actually have no idea what I'm doing. But when I get a button I'll tell you :) promise!

  6. I was just thinking last night that I need to add some buttons and get mine out there sooooooo I'd love to swap!!

Also, I started blogging because I loved having a creative outlet and it motivated me to write all those stories that bounced around in my head. And then as an added bonus, I found out that I could actually connect with people who liked the same things as me! So yes, while it may begin as narcissistic, it usually ends in community. Or it should, ideally.

  9. Shoot, my sister got to you first agaaaaain. Well, some of us have jobs that don't allow us to hang out all summer like she does so I guess I can't feel bad. Anyways, I would love to swap, especially since I have a new button that my sister made for me. Oh and I was totally singing On Display in my head when I read that. I also love me some Housewives!

  20. This post is perfection! I am always wondering if my friends IRL who do not blog can ever really understand the awesome connection that bloggers make. It can definitely seem narcissistic to those who don't fully understand but what I have found about blogging is that it is brave. As you said, we are putting ourselves out there. It is so awesome and inspiring to see so many other awesome people putting their thoughts, hopes, fears, and positivity out there for the world to see. You hit the nail on the head! =)
